Flat Roof Replacement

Traditional flat roofing membranes, such as built up felt and asphalt, should last between 15 years for felt and up to 30 years for asphalt if installed to a high standard. Of course, the quality of the installation is crucial — a poor installation can significantly shorten the lifespan of your flat roof, potentially lasting only a few years.

We specialise in full replacements from the joists up to the membrane, including single ply roofing and insulation, to enhance your home's energy efficiency.

Flat Roof Repairs

If your flat roof is still well within its expected service life and has failed in an isolated area for an obvious reason, a repair may be an option — especially if it involves Built up Felt waterproofing techniques.

However, if the roof is leaking from multiple areas or is approaching the end of its life, considering a replacement with Durable flat roofing or Single Ply rubber roofing systems should be your priority.

Single Ply (Rubber)

Rubber roofing membranes, also known as 'Single Ply rubber roofing', have been utilised for flat roofing for many years and have recently gained popularity in both domestic and commercial markets. These membranes provide a weatherproof covering over your roof with just one layer — which is why they are referred to as 'Single Ply'.

In comparison to traditional options like built up felt, Single Ply systems offer a more streamlined and durable flat roofing solution. We are approved installers of:

  • Alwitra Evalon — high-quality TPO membrane with a reinforced fleece backing, heat-welded seams and powder-coated aluminium trims.
  • Resitrix EPDM Hybrid — a 2.5mm membrane merging synthetic rubber (EPDM) with a modified polymer bitumen backing and heat-welded seams, finished with colour-coded rigid fibreglass trims (e.g. Anthracite).
  • Both systems offer a service life of over 50 years.

Bituminous Membrane (Built Up Felt)

Bituminous membranes — or built up felt — have been used in flat roofing since the 1950s. Modern torch-on or self-adhesive mineral felt membranes with heat-welded seams provide a dependable, cost-effective waterproofing layer that can last over 20 years.

They remain an excellent choice for extensions, garages and outbuildings where a traditional system is preferred.

Liquid Rubber Waterproofing (MMA Resin)

Liquid rubber waterproofing is a rapid-curing, two-coat methyl methacrylate (MMA) resin system. It cures in around 20 minutes and can be foot-trafficked within an hour, offering a 15+ year lifespan.

Because it is completely seamless, it is ideal for complex roofs and can be applied over existing membranes — making it a smart choice where a traditional system would struggle.

Roof Insulation

Getting the insulation right is key to a healthy, efficient flat roof. In a Cold Roof the insulation sits below the deck, which can be prone to condensation and thermal bridging. In a Warm Roof the insulation is placed on top of the deck — highly thermally efficient and meeting current building regulations.

We'll advise on the correct build-up for your project and install it to the highest standard.
